Know the author's background. This person needs to have a background in education and, ideally, should be trained in the latest educational methods, like brain_based teaching/learning. I personally would never use any materials with my child that didn't specifically mention being "brain_based." I am not talking about just "research_based." I see more and more sites claiming to have research_based materials, but what I find is definitely NOT based on how the brains actually learns. Brain_based learning is relatively new in the educational world, but most worksheet sites and materials are using old science or, more often, no science at all.
In 1986, mimeograph machines were (for the most part) replaced by digital copiers in elementary schools. Those of us teachers who experienced using mimeograph machines will forever remember the distinct smell of the still_damp, purple_ink worksheets that we handed out to our students _ by the ream full. (If you're like me, you can remember that smell right now!)
Here are reasons why math worksheets don't work if you want students to understand math, enjoy math, and think mathematically. Math worksheets are not engaging. Numerous research studies have found that when students are actively engaged with the content, they have a much better chance of understanding and remembering what they have learned. Unfortunately, math worksheets tend to bore most students, especially those who need the most help in math.
What are the Parts of a Worksheet? _ Worksheets consists of four primary parts. A cell is the most commonly used part within an Excel workbook. Cells are where users can enter data to be used within formulas and charts later on. Each Cell consists of a Column and a Row. A column is all the cells in one vertical line in the worksheet. Column names can be seen across the top of a worksheet. A row is a collection of cells in line horizontal across a worksheet. Row names or Values can be seen scrolling down to the left of the worksheet.
